Dear Music Parents and Families,
Please join us in advocating for student programs at the Rally to Save Student Programs on Wednesday, April 1 from 5:10 to 6:15 p.m. at the Greater Victoria School District Board Office, 556 Boleskine Road.
This rally is an opportunity for families, students, staff, and supporters to come together and speak up about the proposed district cuts and the significant impact they could have on students across our district. The two student programs most directly affected are middle school music and the Pathways and Partnerships program. In addition, there are proposed cuts to vital student supports, including Speech and Language Pathologists, Psychologists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff, three Early Childhood Educators who support kindergarten classrooms, and a further reduction to Youth and Family Counsellors. We hope you will consider attending and showing your support.
The event will begin with participants gathering on the overpass and nearby roads with signs to help raise awareness of the proposed cuts. This will be followed by a series of speeches and student performances, including performances by the Glanford Choir and the Cedar Hill Jazz Band.
Please note that media will be present at the event and may take photos or interview participants.
The tentative agenda for the event is as follows (speakers are still needing to be confirmed):
5:10 p.m. – Go on overpass and roads with signs
5:30 p.m. – Welcome & Territorial Acknowledgement
5:35 p.m. – Ally Hoffman - Pathways and Partnerships
5:40 p.m. – Saloumeh Pourmalek - VCPAC
5:45 p.m. – Cedar Hill Jazz Band
5:55 p.m. – Music Parent Speech
6:00 p.m. – Music Student Speech
6:10 p.m. – GVTA President Speech
6:15 p.m. – Closing Statements and Hey Jude Sing-a-long
We hope you will join us in supporting music and other important student programs. Your presence and voice can make a difference.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
